What is DateYourDisease.com?

DYD is an online dating community safe from the predjudices and stigmas surrounding singles who have STDs.

Every month, we donate a percentage of ad revenue, but in February we donate all 100% of the ad revenue to the AIDS Research Alliance (click).

I am alive

Ok guys, not fair, I know. I have been out sick for the last 5 days. I am back to life, and I will be finishing up everything else in the coming week. It is nearly done! I hope everyone enjoys it once it is complete.

Profiles, Friends, Ads and Pictures

I've got friends in low places. So I haven't been posting the last few days, because I have been in bed... sick... with grossness in my tummy. I have, though, put a few hours of work in, and added Profiles, Be/De-friending and anonymous profile pictures.

When that person isn't your friend, they are unable to see your full profile, and your profile picture is blurred.

Another feature I have added is a little bit smalled of one, but It allows you to pay at the beginning of the year (or June or July) and for 1 year you have no advertisements. Keeping the site free means you don't have to pay it, but if they inconvenience you, the price is only $5.00 a year!

I'm back to bed though, hopefully I feel better in the coming days.

2 Day Break

Hey guys, sorry for not alerting you ahead of time. I took a two day break to spend some time with my little lady. She was getting depressed that we hadn't been spending as much time together as we were prior to me starting the development on this site.

I will be returning to active development today, and over the weekend I have plans for both Browse and Profiles to be completed.

Green means "GO"; Red means "Oh Hell NO"

Green means go, red means stop.In my previous post, I wrote about my ideas on the Friends section on your profile editor. I seem to have come upon a decent out come. I didn't have the time, or the processing power to do the 3 color boxes, so I did 2, red and green.

Green is used when the other user has the exact same sexually transmitted diseases as you.

Red is obviously bad, it means that either you have a chance of infecting them or they do you.

I think this will make it easier when browsing and searching through your friends, to keep up to date on their current status as it pertains to you. If you are sexually active with one of them, and one day their status turns to red, you know you might have a problem.

Removing the Norm

My ProfileStill toiling away into the wee hours of the night, and I am stuck. I can't seem to get my profile page to NOT look like every other dating/social site's profile page.

This is the part of the game where I need to add something different, or be forced to fail with YADS (yet another dating site). I'm contemplating two routes. One will have a very myspace feel where it is semi cluttered, but you have everything there (friends, messages, alerts, etc). The other would be more in line with what is included in the attached screen shot.

I'm leaning toward 2, and in the friends, I can have the background of their profile picture be green if they are a perfect match, red if you could infect them and yellow if they could infect you. As that would be the natural scale of severity, put others' health before your own.

Well back to toiling...

Time Management = The Suck

I'm here attempting to manage my time developing this site effectively, but it is difficult. I find myself spacing out in the middle of figuring a database connectivity issue or a problem with speed and optimization. What's more is that this is all for no money. It is difficult getting accustomed to that, working without pay or even a 100% prospect of pay. Its enough to drive a man insane.

But on a HEAVIER note. I will probably have to get a better hosting plan than this. It is costing me a premium too, because I'm taking up an entire box that I usually split up for VPS hosting through my company Infinicast Multimedia, LLC.

Keep checking back, and I will keep updating you.

Login/Register

Register/LoginWhile I know the launch date I had told everyone was supposed to be last Wednesday, I have decided to rewrite most of it.

I know this may come as a shock to most of you who I have updated the status on regularly, but I felt It had to be done to make it more complete. It was lacking in more ways than one. Limitations in the platform I had chosen caused undesired effects, the look was just fugly and there were a few bugs I couldn't get past in the Profile Editor.

This will all be fixed - hopefully - by the rewrite, and thanks to being able to reuse a lot of the already written code, we should be fine on time.

I have included a screen shot of the latest Login screen.

The Start of Something...

Ok, so most of you have not heard of Date Your Disease, but saw the weird name, and became as the cat did, curious.  Now, I am no internet marketeer, only a computer developer, so I don't know the best way to market this website to the target audience, and without proper marketing, we don't have the users to fill the seats needed to run this website.

I would however like to extend a hand to you and your friends to keep checking back.  If not for us, then do it for the AIDS Research Alliance, victims of AIDS and HIV, and for the lonely people in your life who have been affected by STDs.

We hope that we can grab enough people to form a decent dating website that can support itself on adsense (click) alone.  Adsense only provides about a penny per click, so we need some major traffic people.  Since we also want to donate portions of the revenue, we need some to begin with.
